Anryn Nuromath was the seventh-born of a little known noble family. The small, Undersea town her family presided over had little use to the larger, more important cities and people, and therefore the Nuromath family was often ignored by other nobles, only known in passing as "the family we'll never become". When Anryn was nine, she presented her sorcerous abilities for the first time, passed down from a long-dead ancestor of her mother's. At first, her magic was hidden, yet another thing othering the family from the rest of the nobility. However, it was quickly realized that her magic could do wonders for the Nuromath reputation, and Anryn was quickly sent off to the Royal Undersea Academy, the only of the Nuromath children ever invited. There, she was put in the position of both being someone that people adored for her magic and kind personality, and someone people mocked and laughed at, often for the rumor that her family's nobility was a sham. She typically responded with a quick joke or a comment to draw the attention from herself, doing her best to ignore those who seemed to hate her and focus on her friends and education.

A few weeks after returning home from visiting family for her sixteenth birthday, she mistakenly pocketed a bracelet of a member of the royal family, a prince, specifically, who's wrist it had slipped off. She had planned to return it, but had been distracted by a teacher giving her work she had missed. The prince accused her of stealing it, and, of course, he was believed over the barely-known noble girl from a tiny town out in nowhere. Anryn was expelled from the Academy, and banished from Catarai, the capital city of the Undersea. When she returned home, her family, ashamed of her and believing that she had stolen the bracelet, shunned her, saying she be better off never returning to Undersea civilization. Her parents and most of her older sibling agreed that they never wanted to see her again, after she'd practically ruined the family name, but her younger sister, Lyden, made her promise to try and someday regain the family's favor and join them once again. Still, she holds that promise close to her heart.
