My mother, Kristina, was a human who grew up in a small fishing village. Her people were fierce and independent fishers and merchants. After an attack on her village, she fled into the country's interior. Alone and missing the sea, aware only that her family was gone, she wandered the woods, surviving alone off her wit & fishing and weaving skills.
That is until she ran into a handsome young wood elf out hunting. Fenian.
Against his family's wishes, he fell madly in love with this plucky human and brought her to live in the canopy city of his people. While unwelcome at first, her natural dexterity and skill with nature at least garnered her enough respect (for a human) to be tolerated and sometimes even appreciated.
They welcomed their first and only child, me!, into the world.

Upbringing:
I was raised in the elven canopy city until I was 10. I had the same kind of relationship with my peers as my mother: that is to say, lukewarm.
My mother died suddenly shortly after my 10th birthday. She'd taught me a lot of her seaside ways and traditions, the music of the docks and tales of travelers... enough to make me restless in the forest. After she died, I was more alone than ever with the elves, and so my father left his community to raise me on the road where I could meet other humans and interact with new peoples - he hoped to help me find my community elsewhere.

We traveled together - working odd jobs - hunting, trading, etc. but mainly we were couriers of information and stories. I had a lyrical voice thanks to my mother's musical people and combined with the fine finger dexterity of my elven father and rope weaving mother, musical instruments came naturally to me. Stories and songs and secrets - that was our lifeblood on the road.
As a moderately skilled bard, we could come and go easily as we pleased.
We made a decent living as travelers together until I was about 20 and itching to go my own way.
