Hangman Tree
Hangman Tree
Huge Plant, Neutral EvilHuge Plant, Neutral Evil
Multiattack The hangman tree makes three vine attacks
Vine Athletics (Grapple) Check: +9, reach 10 ft., one target. On a success the target is constricted and takes 9 (1d6+6) bludgeoning damage, and 9 (1d6+6) more at the start of each of the hangman tree’s turns as long as they remain grappled. The hangman tree can grapple up to three creatures with its vines at a time
Swallow Athletics (Grapple) Check: +9. The hangman tree makes another grapple check against one medium or smaller creature grappled by one of its vines. If successful, the creature is sucked into the trunk of the hangman tree, where it is blinded and restrained. It takes 13 (2d6+6) bludgeoning damage, and 13 (2d6+6) more at the start of each of the hangman trees turns. Up to three medium creatures, or twice as many smaller creatures, may be in the trunk of the hangman tree at any given time. On any turn when the hangman tree takes 30 or more damage, it must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution save or release any swallowed creatures. Swallowed creatures are automatically released should the hangman tree be killed.
Hallucinatory Spores (1/day). The hangman tree can release a cloud of spores in a 50-foot-radius spread. Creatures in the area must make a DC 15 Wisdom save or believe the hangman tree to be a perfectly ordinary tree—or at worst, a treant or some other friendly tree-like creature. An affected creature becomes passive for 2d6 minutes and refuses to attack the hangman tree during this time. An affected creature can attempt a new Wisdom save each round that the tree attacks an ally—if a hallucinating creature is attacked by the tree, it gains advantage on the save to see through the hallucination. A creature may substitute their Investigation check for their Wisdom save if they spend their action examining the tree.

Details
The hangman tree prefers to lie in wait near remote forest tracks and game trails, waiting for victims to wander by. These carnivorous plants are incredibly patient, and can wait for months in a single location for food to approach. When prey does draw near, the tree's vines lash like striking snakes. ... The tree generally only swallows one foe whole at a time, letting its other captured victims dangle and ripen until it is ready to feed on them.
